1. What do I have to do here anyway? Wander from location to location, explore everything and try to pick up and manipulate the objects. Read any information associated with the objects. All of what you hear and see will give you clues as how to get to the final scene. Don't become impatient if something does not behave the way you think it should, or if it cannot be used as you wish. Instead, try to solve different parts of the puzzle first. Some solutions may seem absurd, yet most of them can be deducted with logical thinking. 2. What is the objective of Travelogue? The acting person has to find a way to escape from the hotel. There is no chance of leaving the hotel in the normal way; the only possible solution is indicated by some information in the hotel room. For instance, you might want to take a look at the note written in the green diary, which lies on the bedside table. Or you could watch the sports channel on the tv, which is playing at the beginning. Evidently there is some kind of interference from another frequency, and you can see a bit of an idyllic scene, some sort of a paradise. Might this be where you are heading for? 3. How can I get the remote control working? 3.1 If you pick up the remote for the first time it does not work. In the detailed view, if you open the lower part of the cover you will see that the battery case is empty. The first thing you have to do is find the batteries. 3.2 You won't find any lying around in the room, but maybe there are other battery-operated pieces of equipment? 3.3 Pick up the digital camera from the bed, open the lower edge of the cover and remove the batteries. Now you have a set of batteries in your inventory. In the inventory, select the remote, and open the lid. Now select the batteries and insert them in the case. As soon as you close the inventory bar the remote is displayed in the lower left corner. (You can remove the batteries from the remote if you need them elsewhere. Of course, it will not function without them.) 3.4 If you are lying on the bed and the tv screen is within view you can use the remote. Enlarge the remote by clicking the mouse, and you will be able to press the single buttons. 3.5 The round button in the top left on the remote is the power button, which unfortunately remains broken. But at least you can adjust the volume using the ">" and "<" keys. If you want to switch channels, enter the number on the numeric keypad or use the "-" and "+" keys. 4. I am receiving nothing but noise on the tv. How can I tune in a station? 4.1 There is a folder by the telephone indicating, among other things, the stations you can receive on the tv. All other channel numbers produce nothing but noise and test images. Enter the three-digit channels with the remote control and watch each station for a certain time because you will find solutions to other puzzles here. 4.2 The folder tells you that a very early form of pay-tv is avaliable. Unfortunately, the part of the folder containing the four-digit channel numbers has been torn off. Search for this missing part of the folder to access this channel. Perhaps you should start your search by going through the books in the room... 4.3 When you have found this information, one more station becomes available to you, which is called "Paradise". Change to this channel with the remote. You will be able to view this channel for a short while only, apparently the one you were looking for the whole time. But this channel is pay-tv and after about 15 seconds it becomes pay-coded, and it returns to noise again. 5. How does the pay-tv work? 5.1 The drawing on the right side of the pink folder shows some kind of metre. In the room, this box is mounted below the tv-set. 5.2 Following the instructions three hotel tokens must be inserted into the metre in order to view the pay-tv channel. Unfortunately, you have no idea where to find these tokens. 6. Where do I find hotel tokens? 6.1 There is a total of two tokens in the hotel room, but they are well hidden. 6.2 One is held in the safe, the other in the suitcase on the wardrobe. There is no third token, but maybe you can use something with a similar shape. 6.3 The only item which looks as if it might fit is a bottle-cap. 7. What is the solution to the suitcase puzzle? 7.1 Or, to be more precise, how can you get the suitcase down from the wardrobe? The wardrobe is too high to reach the suitcase, and the chair at the desk is broken and cannot be used. Some sort of rhythmic vibration might make the suitcase drop down to the floor. 7.2 If you switch to the music channel and turn up the volume to a certain level, the bass of the techno music starts to shake the suitcase visibly. But that is not enough, because both the sports and music channels have interference. 7.3 In order to receive the channels without interference you must adjust the antenna. 7.4 Lean out of the window and turn left to the satellite dish. Click on the lower part of the dish to rotate it to the upwards position. This improves the signal. Unfortunately, the dish will not remain in position, but drops down again after a few seconds. To keep the dish where you want it, something needs to act as a wedge. 7.5 The pen from the desk is the exact size to hold up the dish. 7.6 If you already have the pen in the inventory, lift up the satellite dish, open the inventory bar, select the pen icon and place it between the dish and the fitting. The sports and music channels can now be received without interference. 7.7 As soon as you switch to the music channel and turn the volume up towards maximum the suitcase will fall off the wardrobe. You can now open it and pick up the token from the inside. 8. What is the solution to the safe puzzle? 8.1 Did you find the safe already? It is hidden behind the dressing gown in the wardrobe. 8.2 You can shift the dressing gown to the left pulling at the hanger, and the safe will become visible. Of course the safe is locked, to serve its purpose. 8.3 The lock is a combination wheel which you can turn to the left and right by clicking on it with the mouse. However, there are many possible combinations, and opening the lock by trial-and-error may take you quite some time. 8.4 You will find a clue to the operating principle if you leave the room and take a close look at the cleaning cart. It is situated in the corridor by the emergency exit. 8.5 In one of the buckets there is a slip of paper. Somebody has noted two safe combinations, which are for rooms other than yours. But at least you can see the same principle of Left-Right-Left in both combinations, and you may assume that the safe in room 415 will work similarly. 8.6 By the way, if you did not leave the room yet because you could not find the door key, it lies behind the clock radio. 8.7 To find out the combination of the safe, you have to make use of the digital camera. 8.8 If you take a look at the pictures which have been shot with the camera so far, you may have noticed that they look like x-ray images from airport security checks. If you take a picture of the safe you can see the inside of the combination lock. 8.9 Place yourself in front of the safe (meaning the same location where you can operate the lock) and open the inventory. Select the camera and click the camera keys in the detailed view to look closer. Of course, you will need to take the batteries from the remote control and insert them into the camera again. Select the "ON" and "REC", buttons to get the camera cursor. Aim at the safe and click. After the flash, if you watch the pictures again, you will see the mechanics of the lock. 8.10 The combination wheel has three disks, each one stacked on top of the other. Each disk has a triangular incision and a single large rectangular slot with different distances between these marks. The small dents between the triangles and the rectangles on each disk indicate the number of steps you have to turn the wheel: 3, 1 and 4. 8.11 Together with the turning scheme established from the slip of paper there are two possible combinations that you can use for turning the wheel: (4 left - 1 right - 3 left) or (3 left - 1 right - 4 left). The latter of these possibilities is correct. 8.12 Click 3 times with highlighted left-turning arrow, 1 time with the right, and again 4 times with the left, and the safe will open. Pick up the token. 9. What is the solution to the bottle-cap puzzle? 9.1 As there are only a total of two tokens for the pay-tv to be found, you need a alternative for the third token. You will have noticed that the caps of the bottles in the minibar are very close in shape to the tokens. 9.2 If you pick up one of the bottles and try to open it by hand in the detailed view, it will not open. You need to find the correct tool to open the bottle. 9.3 The tool needed to open the bottle is offered to you on the shopping channel. 9.4 If you dial the phone number made available on the shopping channel you will be connected to the call centre. (Don't forget to dial " 0 " first for an external line.) During the phone call, use the buttons " V " for OK and " X " for Cancel. However, the salesperson needs an account number from you, as there will be no opener without paying for it. 9.5 The only account number within reach is the 'donations account' of the tv preacher on channel 168. Do you think anyone will notice if you pay for the opener using this account? 9.6 Again, make another call to the call centre. This time use the keyboard to enter the account number, and confirm with the " V " button. But now, the friendly saleswoman asks for a password. 9.7 Did you notice the saleswoman called you "Grabham" ? Did it strike you that the same name is written on the first page of the bible you took from the bedside table? 9.8 Did you notice the underlined word on the page with the pink bookmark? 9.9 Sometime in the recent past Bill Grabham must have lodged in the same hotel room and left a bible behind - accidentally this is the copy in which he had underlined a word to act as a memory aid for his account password. 9.10 Make another call to the call centre and enter the password. The only information missing now is the delivery address, which is the name of the hotel. 9.11 You can find the name of the hotel printed on a matchbook. 9.12 The matchbook is located in the corridor by the lift. By the way, if you did not leave the room yet because you could not find the door key, it lies behind the clock radio. 9.13 With this final call your order is complete. Next time you open your room door you will find a packet on the floor. 9.14 Take the packet and, in the detailed view, open it at the front end. After that you will have the bottle opener as a new item in the inventory. Bring up the detailed view of the bottle in the inventory, select the opener icon, and use the opener cursor to click on the bottle cap. In addition to the emptied bottle you now have the cap in the inventory, which you can use in place of the missing token. 10. How do I get to the final location? 10.1 Go to the pay-tv box below the tv-set and insert the tokens until the metre dial reaches the far right side and the green light becomes constantly lit instead of blinking. You do not need to insert all the tokens at the same time, but can do so whenever you like. 10.2 If you have not collected all the tokens yet, you will find hints in the individual sections about the three puzzles. Read these first. 10.3 Once the green light is constantly lit lie down on the bed and enter the number for the "Paradise" channel. 10.4 In the final scene there are no more puzzles to be solved. The only thing left to do is to "clear" the last channel. Account number: 66466398 six-letter password: fieber The hotel is called: stockton
